Global manufacturing gloom is bad news for U.S. companies

The worldwide manufacturing sector is in the doldrums, with European, American and Asian factories operating at their lowest levels for at least a year. The slump was sparked by natural disasters and inflation, writes Roya Wolverson, but could become self-perpetuating if consumer confidence continues to wane. "The real question is: Who's going to buy the stuff?" she writes.
