Militants keep Somalis from food aid amid shortfalls

Starving Somalis are not only being prevented from fleeing famine by the Islamist militant group, al-Shabab, they are being herded into temporary camps for displaced people. Somalia, where tens of thousands have died, and more than 500,000 children are at risk of starvation, is the hardest hit by drought and food shortages, but an estimated 12.4 million people are in need of humanitarian aid across the Horn of Africa, according to the United Nations.
