Diet and nutrition news can be confusing, so look at the author's credentials to determine whether the information is credible, read past headlines to see if the story is complete and look for peer review and funding sources for research studies, registered dietitian Bonnie Taub-Dix writes. Diets that call for removing an entire food group or that offer quick fixes should raise a red flag, Taub-Dix writes, and, in most cases, no foods should be totally off limits.
