Andrew Hankinson's photos provide a closer view of the work being done underground at London's $22.4 billion Crossrail project, where eight massive tunnel-boring machines are at work. Work goes on 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, with 8,000 workers taking 12-hour shifts. A quarter million concrete segments will be used to line the tunnels. The entire project is expected to be completed by 2018.
