RD: Green-coffee-bean extract for weight loss is diet fad

Studies so far have not validated claims that chlorogenic acid in green-coffee-bean extract can help people lose weight, although the hype surrounding the claims does not appear to be waning, registered dietitian Keri Gans writes. She warns that green coffee bean contains caffeine, the same as regular coffee, and too much can lead to insomnia, nervousness, gastrointestinal problems and a faster heart rate.
