NASA's Messenger spacecraft blasts off, bound for Mercury

The Messenger spacecraft left Cape Canaveral, Fla., this morning and is expected to begin orbiting Mercury in 2011. The $427 million mission to study the composition of Mercury's core, its thin atmosphere and its magnetic field is part of NASA's low-cost Discovery program.
