Board closes scandal-ridden Oakland charter school

At an emergency meeting on Tuesday, the governing board of University Preparatory Charter Academy, which has been rocked by allegations of cheating and changing student transcripts, voted 3-1 to shutter the school. Oakland public school leaders said they will accommodate the charter's more than 400 students before the school year begins Aug. 27.
