Fee-disclosure legislation could affect small 401(k) plans

Legislation in Congress could help small businesses better understand fees charged for small-business 401(k) plans. A bill approved by the House Education and Labor Committee would require plan providers and administrators to more fully disclose what the fees are on the plans before contracts are signed. However, some retirement-plan experts say they think the increased disclosure may result in higher fees because of additional recordkeeping that will be required of plan sponsors and vendors.
