Firms use Twitter to anticipate bad PR

Some companies are using social media to nip potential public relations crises in the bud. When Ford noticed Twitter flooding with messages criticizing the company for trying to squash a fan site, the company withdrew its shut-down request. Officials with Pepsi used the platform to issue an apology after they published an ad for diet cola that went too far.
