Report: Commitment to technology is essential to reducing energy use

A commitment to deploy new and existing technology -- such as carbon-capture and sequestration systems and advanced nuclear plants -- is essential to put the U.S. on the right path to the reduction of energy use, a National Research Council report says. The commitment needs to be long term, and developments over the next few years will determine what energy options will be available in coming decades, according to Harold T. Shapiro, president emeritus of the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University.
