Search deal frees up resources for Yahoo!

Yahoo! chief Carol Bartz says she entered into the Microsoft search deal because her company can no longer afford to compete with Google and Microsoft's respective investments in search. The agreement lets Yahoo! spend less on marketing and infrastructure for search, and invest the Microsoft funds in other businesses such as display ads, content and mobile services.
