1.4M jobless Americans are past the 99-week limit for benefits

For Americans unemployed more than 99 weeks, the limit for jobless benefits, the final lifeline to food, housing and heat is gone. They number about 1.4 million, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Congressional supporters of legislation to extend benefits said they see little chance of getting the measure passed.
