America's vending machines are getting high-tech makeover

In an effort to revive sagging sales of snacks and drinks, vending machine operators are going high-tech and juicing up their machines with credit-card readers, sales-tracking devices and a 21st-century look. According to the trade magazine Automatic Merchandiser, sales plunged 10% to $19.85 billion in 2009 -- one of the largest drops in vending machine history.
