Bair is out of the running to lead the consumer agency

Despite the support of Senate banking committee Chairman Christopher Dodd, Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Chairwoman Sheila Bair has removed herself from contention to head the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation. President Barack Obama will probably pick Harvard law professor Elizabeth Warren or Assistant Treasury Secretary Michael Barr for the role, a person familiar with the matter said.
