CDC warns of rising obesity rates in the U.S.

The number of U.S. states with at least a 30% obesity rate increased from three in 2007 to nine in 2009, with Mississippi having the highest rate at 34.4%, according to the CDC. The rates could be higher considering that the figures are based on telephone surveys rather than actual measurements of body mass index, the CDC said. "We need intensive, comprehensive and ongoing efforts to address obesity," CDC Director Thomas Frieden said.
