Fed might resume modest bond buying to bolster market confidence

The Federal Reserve's investment in mortgage bonds will start generating a revenue stream for the central bank when the bonds mature, and there is a chance the money will be reinvested in additional bonds, rather than allowing the Fed's portfolio to slowly shrink. Officials at the central bank are considering whether the move, although largely symbolic because of its modest size, would be a confidence builder.
