Gut bacteria may cause obesity, stomach woes, allergies

Children in industrialized nations may harbor gut bacteria that cause higher rates of allergies, chronic stomach problems and obesity, a study found. Researchers compared intestinal bacteria from children in the European Union with those from remote villages in Burkina Faso and found differences, traced back to diet, to explain disparities in chronic disease and obesity.
