How can Texas schools recruit more minority educators?

Enrollment of minority students in Texas schools is rising steadily, while the number of minority teachers remains stagnant. Research shows students may achieve more when taught by educators of the same race or ethnicity, who can act as role models and better understand cultural differences. Officials said only a small number of minority college graduates express an interest in teaching, and one educator said better compensation could encourage more minorities to pursue teaching careers.
