Oil slick in the Gulf takes toll on pets

Shelters around the Gulf of Mexico have been inundated with pets abandoned by unemployed families as a result of the recent oil spill, according to AVMA's American Veterinary Medical Foundation. "Our hope is to ease the pet care challenges families and shelters in the Gulf are facing by providing funding and resources for food and medical care," said the AVMF's executive director, Michael Cathey.
