Unemployment hovers at 9.5% as private employers add jobs

Nonfarm payrolls declined by 131,000 in July, largely because of the end of census-related work, according to the Labor Department. However, jobs in the private sector increased by 71,000 last month. Companies added jobs for the seventh month in a row, but the pace of employment growth has been slow. The nation's unemployment rate stayed at 9.5%.
