Any unexpected large expense can thwart the most carefully laid plans for starting a new business, so watching out for hidden costs is vital. Overpriced website-design fees, unnecessary association memberships and unanticipated construction costs can sink a fledgling budget. "You don't want to overextend yourself or run through your reserves before you're even up and running," said Dennis Ceru, adjunct professor of entrepreneurship at Babson College.
