August is the peak month for West Nile worries

August is the most likely time for humans living in Colorado and other parts of the West to contract the West Nile Virus from the bite of the Culex tarsalis mosquito, said Colorado state public health veterinarian Elisabeth Lawaczeck. Only one human case of the virus has been confirmed in Colorado so far this summer, but public health officials are closely monitoring the mosquito, which typically comprises between 20% and 30% of the total mosquito population.
