How teachers should approach classroom technology

Teachers should know not only how to use technology but also how to integrate the tools in lessons and help students learn, says elementary-school computer teacher Mary Beth Hertz. She writes that schools must value educational technology and that effective use requires teachers to understand the "whys and whens of technology." There are basic skills that teachers also need, such as e-mailing, searching the Internet and maneuvering a basic computer operating system.
