Organize garden maintenance to save plants from heat, expert says

A strategy called "foundation gardening" can help plants survive dry and warm weather, said horticultural expert Stephen Smith in Tulsa, Okla. The process involves taking care of trees first, then moving to smaller and smaller plants. Gardeners can also shield some plants from the heat with a white cloth, Smith added.
