Report touts potential of Bakken, other shale-oil plays

The significant increase in Bakken Shale crude production shows that U.S. shale-oil plays have the potential to boost domestic energy supplies, according to a report by the Energy Policy Research Foundation. Production from the play could exceed 700,000 barrels per day in the next few years and surpass 10% of domestic output through more drilling and investments. The report also cited hurdles to development, which include environmental concerns and rising costs.
