Survey: Parental concerns fuel growth in home schooling

Nearly 1.1 million students were home-schooled last year, a 29% increase since 1999, according to new parent surveys released yesterday by the Education Department. When asked why they chose to home school, 31% of respondents cited concern about public schools' environments, 30% said they wanted to teach religious or moral lessons and 16% noted they were dissatisfied with traditional schools' academic instruction.
