Declaring shuttle safe, NASA decides against Discovery repair

NASA officials have decided Discovery astronauts will not repair a torn thermal blanket on the port side of the space shuttle below the cockpit window. Mission Control told the crew the shuttle is safe for re-entry. NASA had considered sending the astronauts outside the shuttle to snip away part of the blanket.
