Audio/visual consults may lead to better medical decisions

A study of adult stroke patients in remote areas of California found audio/visual telemedicine consults resulted in more accurate treatment decisions compared with telephone conversations. Researchers say 98% of telemedicine consultations resulted in the right medical decision regarding whether to give patients thrombolytics, compared with 82% of decisions made after telephone consults.
