Private-equity, real estate funds fight to buy CDOs

Private-equity and real estate investment funds are scooping up real estate debt from banks. Most of the debt being purchased comes in the form of collateralized debt obligations, as opposed to bank loans and commercial mortgage-backed securities. The CDOs carry significant risks for their new owners.
