Many Cuban health professionals working in Miami

Miami may be home to as many as 6,000 Cuban medical professionals, many of whom are physicians who have defected over the past six years. Some have been able to get licenses to continue working as doctors, but language barriers, technology challenges and the difficulty of finding a residency as an older doctor have led many to work in other areas of the health care industry, as nurses, medical assistants or even lab technicians.
