MDS calls on AECL to adopt computer codes used in other reactors

MDS Nordion urged Atomic Energy of Canada to complete the MAPLE project, which aims to address the global shortage of medical isotopes, by collaborating with the South African Nuclear Energy on the adoption of Open Standard Codes and Routines computer codes needed to restart the project. The adoption of the codes would solve a discrepancy involving the MAPLE reactors' reactivity and pave the way for licensing by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission of the reactor's operation, MDS said.
