Physical evidence lacking in some sexual abuse cases

Pediatric researchers reported only 10% of girls who described repeated sexual abuse by genital penetration had "definitive" physical evidence to prove it. The study in Pediatrics found in all cases where there was evidence it was a healed hymen tear. Researchers said reasons for a lack of evidence may be that injuries had healed or that penetration may have occurred without injury.
