Work starts on London skyscraper; tenants to include 5-star hotel

Builders in London are laying the foundation of architect Renzo Piano's striking "Shard," which will become the tallest skyscraper in western Europe, rising to 1,016 feet. Tenants that have already leased space in The Shard include Asian luxury hotel group Shangri-La Asia Ltd., which will open a five-star, 197-room hotel in 19 stories of the building. Construction on the 80-story skyscraper is due to be complete by 2012.
