Bill would expand Medicaid funding advances in the Senate

The Senate on Wednesday voted to advance a bill that would allocate about $16 billion in federal funding to help state governments pay for the rising costs of expanding the Medicaid program. The bill also is expected to help hospitals that provide uncompensated care to insured patients. Democrats say the bill could be approved in the Senate by the end of this week.
