DOT prepares to hand out $600M, requests top $26 billion

The Department of Transportation has $600 million in discretionary funds to spend, and about $26 billion in requests have come flooding in. The DOT said it received about 2,300 pre-applications for the funds. A previous handout of $1.5 billion in TIGER II discretionary grant money went to 51 different construction projects to improve the nation's freight railways, waterways and highways.
