AHA views proposed HIPAA disclosure rule as "misguided"

The American Hospital Association sent a letter urging the HHS Office for Civil Rights to drop the proposed HIPAA rule that would allow patients to ask for a report on who accessed their electronic health records. "The proposal ... is misguided and does not appropriately balance the relevant privacy interests of individuals with the burdens that will be imposed on covered entities, including hospitals," the letter stated.
