Asia-Pacific strength helps Android capture nearly half of market

With heavy penetration in the Asia-Pacific region, Google's Android accounts for nearly half the global market for smartphones and is the leader in 35 out of 56 countries surveyed, according to data compiled by Canalys. Meanwhile, Korea's Samsung has overtaken Nokia as a phone maker, falling just behind Apple, which has 19% of the world market.
