Global restaurant expansion comes with higher costs

U.S. restaurant chains including McDonald's, Pizza Hut and Starbucks have been expanding aggressively around the globe in an effort to tap fast-growing new markets, but the growth comes with potentially high costs. Increased demand for U.S. restaurant fare has caused shifts in the worldwide supply chain and resulted in higher commodity prices for staples such as beef and cheese.
