How has MTV changed education?

As MTV celebrates 30 years on the air, one educator reflects on how the television station has changed teaching and learning -- and what the technology of today means for education. Jeffrey Taekman, assistant dean for educational technology at Duke University School of Medicine, writes that MTV altered the consumption of information. Now, he says, the trend is toward the control and creation of entertainment by consumers, which must be modeled in the classroom through the elimination of lecture-based teaching.
