Man may face charges for in-home nuclear efforts

A gaggle of police and government officials showed up at a Swedish man's apartment last month after he inquired about the legality of a nuclear reaction in his kitchen using radium, americium, thorium and depleted U-238, most of it scavenged from things such as smoke detectors and clocks. Police released the man, Richard Handl, after questioning, but said he could still face charges.
