St. Louis Sewer District to invest $4.7B in systems upgrades

The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District has agreed to invest $4.7 billion to improve its storm water and wastewater management systems over 23 years to settle a lawsuit over violations of the Clean Water Act. The settlement calls for the creation of two sewage storage tunnels, each up to nine miles long, and will be paid for with "little or no federal assistance," according to officials.
