Veterinarian explains causes for dogs' hanging tongues

Dogs whose tongues hang out of their mouths may look like there's something wrong, but only in some cases is the condition cause for concern, writes Washington veterinarian Kevin Wilson. Several small breed brachycephalic dogs have tongues that are too big for their mouths. In more serious cases, tongues may loll because of severe dental disease that leaves pups with no lower teeth for the tongues to rest against and could render tongues unusable and ultimately require tube feeding.
