Calif. district is recognized for its school-meal program

The Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District in California has been recognized for its efforts to provide healthy meals for students, and school nutrition professionals say the food is being well-received by students. Brenda Handy, the district's foodservice director, said students are choosing tossed salads and fresh fruit in the cafeteria. The district's Golden Valley Elementary School has been awarded a gold star for meeting the HealthierUS School Challenge.
