Canada may fight Rogers' reported plan to block Verizon entry

Canada's Industry Minister hinted that the government would act to enforce laws designed to prevent "undue concentration" of spectrum if Rogers Communications proceeded with a reported plan to join with a private equity firm to buy a pair of small wireless companies that Verizon Wireless might be pursuing. Rogers was reportedly considering buying Wind Mobile and possibly a second carrier in an effort to block Verizon's entrance into Canada under newly liberalized foreign competition rules.
