At Target, innovation is everyone's job, says Beth Jacob, the retailer's executive vice president and chief information officer. The company holds regular "Big Idea contests" and "Make Days" to encourage out-there business concepts or work on side projects. "We are willing to take bets on ideas that won't go forward," Jacob says. “As an organization, we are well prepared to do that.”
