PhRMA poll finds cancer is top drug research priority for Americans

A survey sponsored by PhRMA found that Americans view cancer as the highest-priority disease for the development of new treatments, with 86% endorsing drug discovery for more types of malignancies. Seventy-eight percent of respondents endorsed better drugs for heart disease, while three out of four respondents supported the need for better treatments for seniors and to fight obesity. "A patient-centric dialog is crucial to improving health outcomes," PhRMA President and CEO John J. Castellani said. "The Health Survey findings will help also inform efforts to address major health challenges such as chronic disease, improved prevention and wellness activities and enhanced patient adherence to prescribed therapies."
