Sharing meaningful content helped Upworthy take off

By repurposing online content with snappy headlines, Upworthy has gone viral just as it has helped other videos and content go viral. Upworthy has only been online for 16 months and is already getting more visitors than Gawker, according to Web-ranking firm Quantcast. "People get viral content wrong. They imagine that the reason people share stuff is to have a laugh. But a huge part of sharing is being passionate about something, about shedding light on what really matters," said co-founder Eli Pariser.
