Texting while walking is a major traffic hazard, experts say

Distractions related to texting may be a factor in thousands of pedestrian deaths and injuries per year, and a Liberty Mutual Insurance survey found that 60% of respondents admitted to using their cellphones while walking, while 70% said that such a practice is dangerous. "So much attention has been paid, and rightly so, to distracted driving that we have ignored the fact that distracted walking and crossing can be just as risky," said David Melton of Liberty Mutual.
