Cal State reaches $2.5M settlement over student's death in police shooting

California State University has agreed to pay $2.5 million to resolve a lawsuit by the parents of a graduate student shot to death in 2012 after resisting San Bernardino campus police's attempts to take him into custody for an evaluation. The student suffered from bipolar disorder. The settlement allows the university to deny fault and liability, but it sets crisis-training requirements for police.
