Data point to possible Alzheimer's-sleep apnea link

A new study that relies on imaging data suggests a possible link between sleep apnea and preclinical Alzheimer's disease. FDG-PET and PiB-PET data from 74 subjects support a connection between the sleep disorder and glucose hypometabolism in brain areas affected by AD. Researcher Dr. Ricardo Osorio speculates that the subjects may have had preclinical AD that could be causing sleep apnea, or it's possible sleep apnea may be causing abnormalities that contribute to cognitive decline.
